From preparation to action: the waste technical support closes
The end of ADEME's support marks the shift from preparation to action for Mauritius' circular economy.
The close of ADEME's technical support, funded by the French Development Agency under a waste FEXTE, marks a turning point: the move from preparation to action.
The programme structured the first value chains, rolled out source separation, strengthened capacity and gave stakeholders concrete steering and financing tools.
The challenge is now clear: structure the waste value chain, invest in infrastructure, tighten the regulatory framework and mobilise public and private funding.
Source separation will feed the recovery outlets, cut imports and create jobs, while easing the pressure on Mare Chicose, which has now reached saturation. The support also strengthened regional cooperation: Cycléa and WeCycle are giving Réunion cardboard a second life through short loops.
