Supporting Mauritius' waste strategy

Mauritius

Structuring the first value chains and rolling out source separation, with ADEME mandated by the Ministry of the Environment.

Explore the project

Mare Chicose, the island's only landfill, has reached saturation. Yet 46% of household waste is recyclable, and the recycling rate stalls at 4-5%.

Our role

Support for value chain structuring, source separation rollout and capacity building among local stakeholders.

Progress so far

Value chains structured, source separation deployed and steering tools in place — the move to scale is under way.

Moskit0

Mauritius

A 100% plant-based mosquito repellent, from plant to finished product, made locally.

Explore the project

The repellents available in Mauritius are imported and mostly rely on DEET-based chemical insecticides, even though the region grows plants with proven properties.

Our role

Research and development, structuring of the plant-to-product value chain, and support for scale-up.

Progress so far

A complete plant-based value chain and tested formulations, with market tests being prepared for Mauritius, Rodrigues and the region.

Mauritius Plastic Challenge

Mauritius

A national plastics campaign, prepared and delivered for Association Mission Verte.

Explore the project

Plastic is one of the island's most visible streams: present in everyone's daily life, rarely collected or recovered locally.

Our role

Design of the programme, partner mobilisation and nationwide campaign facilitation, delivered for Association Mission Verte.

Progress so far

30 partners mobilised and 68,000 people reached in twelve months.

Industrial symbiosis for the AMM

Mauritius

Matching workshops so that one company's waste becomes another's resource.

Explore the project

A company's waste is treated as a cost, even though it can meet a neighbouring need — in material, energy or information.

Our role

Facilitation of matching workshops, flow mapping and support for the synergies identified with industry.

Progress so far

A regular workshop programme serving AMM members, documented with the industrial partners involved.

Ecological Transition House

Beau Plan, Mauritius

A third place in Beau Plan gathering the technical and organisational solutions of the transition.

Explore the project

Solutions exist, but they remain scattered: no single place makes them visible, accessible and learnable for the public.

Our role

Concept design, solution mapping and stakeholder mobilisation around a single entry point for the transition.

Progress so far

A project structured around four poles, sitting between businesses, associations, municipalities and citizens.

Freedom Plastic

Mauritius

A circular economy fablab turning landfill-bound HDPE plastic into useful objects.

Explore the project

HDPE plastic ends up in landfill or in nature, even though it can be shredded, heated and moulded locally at low cost.

Our role

Fablab design, team training and facilitation of making sessions, delivered for Association Mission Verte.

Progress so far

Over 3,000 students trained and over 3,500 objects produced — a machine still running.
